Finding Joy in the Everyday

Saturday is not always what I want it to be, some times I have all these exciting ideas about what I want to do, but well there are things that just need doing. This life is not always going to be glamorous or exciting. There are going to be days where you feel like you're stuck in a rut, and the only thing you have to look forward to is doing your laundry. But, as I've come to realize, it's all about finding joy in the everyday, you know the pursuit of happiness.

For starters, the mundane task of doing laundry, could suck, and it does, because I don’t like coming across my son’s sweaty smelling like ass gym shorts that has been in his bag for days, or the socks that have dried weirdly. Now, I know it's not exactly the most thrilling activity, but I've learned to make it fun. I'll put on my favorite playlist and dance around my apartment as I'm sorting through our clothes. It's a great way to burn some calories and get my heart rate up. When I go to the laundry downstairs, its alone time, where I get to process my thoughts. Plus, when I bring the clothes upstairs to fold it's a good excuse to put on a movie on Netflix and watch while I match socks.

Another everyday task that I've learned to find joy in is grocery shopping. I used to dread going to the store, but now I see it as an opportunity to try new recipes and experiment with different ingredients. It's always a great excuse to indulge in a little retail therapy and pick up a new cookbook or kitchen gadget.

One of the most important things I've learned as I’ve grown older, that self-care is very important. It's easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle of everyday life, but taking the time to pamper yourself is essential for maintaining a positive mindset. Sometimes, putting on a mask, to try to hamper the aging process is key. Also since I purchase my own gel nail polish and light, I get to sit with myself and polish my nails and save some money. Whether it's taking a relaxing bath( I don’t do this, too much work is needed just to sit in my body soup water), going for a walk, or indulging in a glass of wine, make sure you're taking the time to take care of yourself.

Another way to find joy in the everyday is to surround yourself with positive people. The people you surround yourself with have a huge impact on your mood and overall well-being. Make sure you're surrounding yourself with people who lift you up and make you feel good about yourself. Sometimes it is not only surrounding myself with positive people in the physical, I put on a recorded podcast on Youtube, one of the positive ones or I find a comedy special on Amazon prime and just listen as I mop the floor, and just have a good time.

In conclusion, I've learned that life is not always going to be exciting, but it's all about finding joy in the everyday and the continued need to pursue happiness. Whether it's dancing while doing laundry or trying new recipes, make sure you're taking the time to enjoy the little things in life. And most importantly, don't forget to take care of yourself and surround yourself with positive people. After all, as Carrie Bradshaw once said, "The most exciting, challenging and significant relationship of all is the one you have with yourself."
